SWB's Current Product Line
SWB Turbines has specialized in designing, developing and manufacturing micro-turbines for a wide variety of applications in several different sizes and power ratings since 1985. SWB Turbines has manufactured engines of their own design with installations in UAV and gas generator applications for the Navy, NASA, Teledyne Ryan and McDonnell Douglas. Our key competitive advantage is our innovative, low-cost approach to design and fabrication of miniature air breathing turbine engine systems which provides real value to our customers. Thrust engines developed at SWB Turbines today range from 25 lb to over 100 lb thrust, and shaft engines have been developed for 50 kW applications. SWB Turbines is also currently developing a turboprop engine under a Phase II contract with the U.S. Army Advanced Aviation Technology Directorate, at Ft. Eustis, VA. There are also some green technologies at SWB, including a natural gas/landfill methane combusting engine, and associated injector/combustor technology, enabling the reduction of green-house gases while creating useful work.
Our turbines are engineered to have the highest overall cycle efficiency and best SFC (Specific Fuel Consumption) available as compared to turbines commercially available to modelers. This high overall cycle efficiency is due to years of research and development. It was this lengthy R&D process which resulted in patented technology throughout the components of our engines. All of our turbines are designed and manufactured in house using state of the art technology. Each turbine is assembled by hand, and quality control is held to exacting specifications. Turbine engines currently available from SWB include the SWB-11, SWB-25, SWB-35, SWB-45, SWB-65, and the SWB-100.

Next Generation of Turbines Under Development
SWB Turbines is currently in the process of designing and engineering our next generation of turbines. These engines are based on the design of a 30 lb thrust turbine that SWB created for a military application. With it's unique bearing configuration, these turbines will have improved shaft dynamics which will allow them to operate at higher a RPM with higher pressure ratios. Another benefit of this design is that the front housing is engineered in such a way as to allow for the addition of a generator inside the front bearing cavity if the application requires such. We are currently developing the 80 lb and 100 lb thrust versions of this design. This design is also an excellent candidate for turbo-generators.
