Interesting facts about SWB's model aviation history

Back in 1993, SWB Turbines shocked the model aviation community with the world’s first kerosene turbine powered large-scale model jet, “Big Red”.  Powered by a SWB-35 turbine producing  35 pounds of thrust, this model jet was the also the worlds first to fly with over 30 pounds of thrust.  The SWB team won awards with “Big Red” at jet fly-ins all around the United States including:

  • Technical achievement award – 1993 5th annual Superman jet rally

  • Best kerosene fueled turbine award 1994 5th annual International jets over Deland

  • Best of Show award – 1995 7th annual Superman jet rally.

The SWB team also put on demo flights with Big Red at shows such as the Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas Nevada.  With it’s astonishing performance, Big Red won the hearts of countless model jet fans.  With our new distributorship of the Jet stream model jet turbines; we are looking forward to making appearances at upcoming model jet fly-ins.  Also with the AMA's new rule limiting model turbine thrust at 35 pounds.
